Mykonos

Our Review
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

A gem in the Aegean Sea, Mykonos offers something for everyone, from quiet stretches of sand to full-on party beaches. Mykonos Town, or Hora, is a picture-perfect setting, with restaurants at the waterfront for viewing stunning sunsets and scanning the fleet of colorful fishing boats. The cosmopolitan village has upscale boutiques, bars, and distinct whitewashed homes with blue doors, all lined neatly along a crescent-shaped bay. Smaller cruise ships dock at the port facility in Tourlos (a short cab ride to town); large ships tender visitors ashore, sometimes straight to Mykonos Town.

What We Love

"Little Venice": The island's Alefkandra district beckons you to relax at a cafe and take in the gorgeous surroundings that include iconic hillside windmills and large seafront homes with balconies jutting over the water.

Best Known For

Hora: The capital town is a wonderful display of Cycladic architecture (the simple, pure, white and blue stone structures). The area is also packed with shopping and dining options — just wandering the marble alleys is an adventure in itself.

Beaches: Agios Stefanos Beach, a quiet spot for sunning and swimming, is just a 15-minute walk from the cruise terminal in Tourlos. If you want to join the party crowd, get to Psarou Beach, Paradise Beach, or Super Paradise Beach to cut loose.

Who It's Best For

Shoppers: Jewelry shops, boutiques featuring top labels, and stores selling housewares and handcrafted souvenirs are open late and always bustling. Head to Matoyianni Street in Hora and shop amid the maze of alleyways.

Nightlife Lovers: Whether at a beach-area nightclub or at a bar in Mykonos Town, where the hopping venues are stacked one next to another, things get ramped up after sunset and don't stop until the wee hours.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

Be Prepared for Sticker Shock: Prices are sky-high at the restaurants and bars here compared with almost everywhere else in Greece.
