Say goodbye to floral bedspreads, bland carpet, and dated over-the-bed artwork at Super 8. The budget hotel chain is in the midst of renovations that will freshen up and modernize its 1,800 North American properties by the end of this year -- a move similar to one made in 2015 by Motel 6 -- to perk up the economy experience.
We'll show you the redesign in a bit, but first let's take a look at some Super 8 rooms of yesteryear.
And here's the new look:
One of the defining features of the refurbishment is the addition of over-the-bed, destination-specific artwork that conveniently doubles as headboards.
Each hotel had the opportunity to select images from a stable of 50,000 photos for placement in the rooms, lobbies, and other common spaces. And what happened to the old art? In May, Super 8 brought mountains of it from properties across the country to a gallery in New York City and let visitors take them home -- for free.
The artwork isn't the only thing that's new; guests will find contemporary furnishings, a sleek entertainment console, accent curtains, and pops of lime green and aubergine throughout. The redecorations extend beyond the rooms and lobbies, to places like breakfast areas, where the cool color palette provides a cheery start to the morning.
