In just a couple weeks’ time, spring will be here. We’re definitely looking forward to trading in the layers of outerwear for lighter duds, but there’s one thing that we’re happy to have while winter sticks around: lower rates in the Finger Lakes Wine Country. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway this month, on top of those great prices, a select number of properties in the region are offering either a free third night or half off the second night through March 31. The Winter in Finger Lakes Wine Country promotion also gives travelers a Palate Passport filled with discounts and deals for popular local attractions and businesses. Here's a quick look at just a few of the options.
For travelers interested in a central location, Radisson Hotel Corning sits right by all the local establishments on Market Street. Here, get a third night for free when you pay for two. There’s still availability for check-in dates of March 22 and 27-28, but we found the lowest night rates of $129 (pre-promotion) on March 27-30. Free WiFi is included.
Interested in accommodations with character? Check into the Rosewood Inn, a B&B teeming with Victorian charm in all six rooms and suite. It’s also offering a third night free, and we found availability throughout the rest of the month for $169 per night in regular rooms. To shave $20 off that nightly rate, check into Room 1 March 23 and 24. In addition to enjoying the free WiFi, guests here can load up on breakfast each morning and munch on cookies and tea in the parlor in the afternoon.
One of the region’s most popular properties is the Inn at Glenora Wine Cellars, where every room has a private patio or balcony overlooking the vineyard the inn sits on as well as WiFi. Here, you’ll get the second night at a 50 percent discount, a bottle of Glenora wine, and glass of sparkling wine at check-in. Perhaps it's a sign of the inn's high demand, but there's only availability for Sunday to Thursday nights the rest of this month, starting at $119 for the first night.
As for that Palate Passport, it'll let you sample some vino and even score some additional freebies at select wineries, breweries, or distilleries -- plus discounts at other local attractions. Glenora Wine Cellars is offering complimentary tastings for two, a pair of logo glasses, and a 10 percent discount on purchases of three bottles of wine; Fulkerson Winery is also offering a standard tasting for free, two glasses with a wine purchase, and a wine tote when you buy three or more bottles. Once you’ve satisfied your thirst, don't forget the impressive likes of The Corning Museum of Glass, which will debut a new 100,000-square-foot wing dedicated to contemporary art and design on March 20. It's offering a buy one get one free deal on admission (typically $18 each) for Palate Passport holders -- and admission will be valid for two consecutive days.
