Romantic, over-water villas in the Maldives or Tahiti are the stuff of travel bucket list dreams. In fact, Disney’s Polynesian resort at Walt Disney World has even refashioned some of its rooms as over-water bungalows. Of course, you may not be dreaming of the hefty price tag that's attached; most bungalow rooms in the Maldives easily cost more than $1,000 per night, and the Disney version starts at nearly $3,000. We found one, though, that’s a great deal -- and it’s brand new.
As Fiji welcomes more tourists (it was one of our top budget destinations of 2015 ) more over-water-style bungalows are popping up across the chain of islands -- and they’re affordable. We love the new “edgewater bures” at the Koro Sun Resort & Spa on Fiji’s second-largest island, Vanua Levu. With thatched roofs, private porches and lagoon access, king-size beds, and signature Fijian style, the bures offer lots of space, and loads of privacy. And now the pricetag: $525 per couple, per night, including all meals. Considering that a single night hovering over an Orlando lake could cost you about five times as much, we definitely like this introductory offer. To get it, book before August 1 and travel before March 31, 2016. After that, the price goes up to $750 per night.
