Although Santa’s usual mode of travel is reindeer and sleigh, this holiday season he’s decided to take a break from the stress of the workshop and enjoy a week as a gondolier at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in San Diego. From December 16 through 23, guests can take the “Buon Natale” holiday cruise and have a caroling Santa guide them through the waterways and canals of the Coronado Cays. Of course, just because Santa is trying out new transportation methods doesn’t mean his penchant for cookies isn’t still just as strong as ever — the cruise includes sugar cookies and hot cider (alcoholic, if you prefer). Rides are $145 per one hour cruise.

To continue the holiday cheer, the seaside resort, complete with its own marina, private beach, and spa, is also getting into the spirit of giving with a “Home for the Holidays” promotion. From now until January 8, 2012, if you’re staying three or more nights, you’ll enjoy a 20 percent discount on your room rate. Rates start at $127. www.loewshotels.com
