In a unique twist, Kittitian Hill has just unveiled its working organic Belle Mont Farm accommodations, in the first chapter of its luxury sustainable development. The property encompasses a collection of 84 one-bedroom guesthouses and seven four-bedroom farmhouses, all set on an organic farm.
Set amid 400 acres of lush landscape on the slopes of Mt. Liamuiga, in the north of the island, the guesthouses and farmhouses feature open verandas, private infinity pools, al fresco bathrooms with rainwater showers and freestanding roll-top bathtubs, as well as panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and neighboring islands including St Barths. Onsite facilities include Irie Fields Golf Course -- a par 71, 18-hole golf course designed by legendary Welsh golfer Ian Woosnam -- and the first golf course to acquire certification in the sustainability-focused Golf Environment Organization’s LEGACY Program.
While all-inclusive rates do cover meals, a daily spa credit, chauffeur-driven airport transfers, and unlimited golf, starting rates of $1,300 for two means that this one is probably one for the dream resort list. Still, we bet this type of sustainability wouldn't have typically topped most lists.
Indeed, sustainability is of course key at the resort. Built by local craftsmen using local and sustainable materials, Belle Mont Farm’s design mirrors the architecture of the island's traditional chattel houses, and all structures have been deliberately and strategically placed for minimal impact on the landscape. Fresh produce is harvested from farms, tropical forests, and the Caribbean Sea, and wooden baskets are provided to encourage guests to forage for their own. The surrounding farmland offers passion fruit, bananas, and pineapple -- all handily indicated by "pick me" signs. Then in the main building, The Kitchen restaurant & The Mill bar offers farm-to-table dining.
