About an hour's drive from Palm Springs lies Anza Borrego Desert State Park, which is known for its dreamy desert landscapes, rugged mountains, and jagged canyons. Every spring, the park transforms into a colorful oasis of wildflowers, most notably bright yellow desert dandelions. La Casa Del Zorro, which translates to "House of the Fox," is located near the park and stands out for its expansive grounds, elegant rooms and casitas, and several dining options. Keep reading for our full review of the 1937-built property.

What You Need to Know

The Look of La Casa Del Zorro

La Casa Del Zorro blends seamlessly into its desert surroundings with adobe-style buildings in warm hues of beige, sand, and terracotta, which are accented by red clay-tiled roofs. Arched doorways and wooden pergolas add to the hacienda-inspired look.

Inside, the lobby exudes Southwestern charm with wood-beamed ceilings, terracotta tile floors, and earth-toned walls. A roaring stone fireplace, woven textiles, handcrafted wooden furnishings, wrought-iron chandeliers, and desert-inspired artwork enhance the rustic-chic aesthetic. Meanwhile, large windows flood the space with natural light, offering a peek of the property's manicured gardens, swaying palms, and bursts of pink bougainvillea.

Accommodations are divided into two main categories: guest rooms and freestanding casitas, the latter ranging in size from one to four bedrooms. Most casitas boast private pools or Jacuzzis, and all include separate living areas, a wet bar, and ample outdoor space prime for stargazing. Standard guest rooms, meanwhile, offer private patios or balconies, high ceilings, plush bedding, and elegant dark wood furnishings.

The Vibe at La Casa Del Zorro

The resort is best described as warm, rustic, and inviting, albeit with a subtle touch of luxury. Its idyllic desert setting offers guests a uniquely peaceful escape.

When not exploring the surrounding state park, guests can swim in one of several pools, relax in the spa, or indulge in a meal — or a cocktail — at one of three on-site bars and restaurants. Notably, The Fox Bistro serves Southwestern-influenced fare (think huevos rancheros and fish tacos) in a stylish space that features white-washed adobe interiors, exposed beams, and hardwood floors.

Come nighttime, guests can gather to stargaze and unwind in one of the tranquil courtyards dotted with fire pits and cozy seating.
