Ladies who love ladies often get a bum rap when it comes to options for letting loose. Even in the country’s defacto queer capital, New York City, there are 30-plus gay bars, but only three are targeted to lesbians. But if The L Word and The Real L Word showcased anything, it’s that a girl’s gotta party!
And she will, thanks to Maggie C. Events and Pandora Events, with a rocking new event next week and one later in the fall: Shedonism in Las Vegas, the city’s first-ever lesbian takeover planned in conjunction with Vegas Pride, from September 15 to 19, and Valhalla Women’s Week at the W Vieques (from October 20 to 23).
Having already sold out the host hotel Rumor, Shedonism has spilled over into the nearby Hard Rock Hotel with what promoters promise to be a guilt-free devotion to sensual pleasures with a healthy dose of debauchery. Viva Les Vegas, baby! There's a Lust Kick-Off Dance Party on Thursday, a pool party before the big Pride Parade and first-ever Dyke March (from 7:30 to 8pm) on Friday, followed by four more parties throughout the weekend, plus a Celesbian Texas Hold-Em Poker Tournament to benefit the National Center for Lesbian Rights ($100 buy-in), and an indulgent Sunday brunch. Tickets to events range from $8 to $35 at the door with a $99 VIP Sin Pass to all events. Expect naughtiness, DJs, and the cast of The Real L Word cavorting with the crowd.
A slightly more sedate affair on the secluded white sands of Vieques, Puerto Rico, Valhalla Women's Week in partnership with GO Magazine aims to create a lesbian-only terrestrial paradise. That's right: They've bought out the whole place, two beaches (one clothing-optional) and all 700 women will experience an unprecedented, women-only island escape at the luxe 155-room resort, which boasts oversized rooms and suites all featuring ocean views from private balconies or terraces, famously plush beds, Bliss products, and all the mod cons you've come to expect from the upscale design- and fun-driven brand. Entertainment-wise, expect club nights, poolside dance parties, comedy shows, and live musical performances by major recording artists, plus evening bonfires on the beach to get the sexy groove going. Local excursions such as a visit to the Bioluminescent Bay to horseback riding on the beach and a catamaran excursion at sunset can also be arranged. Valhalla producers will collaborate with resort chefs to provide specially designed and priced dinner and cocktail menus crafted by celesbian chefs and other gourmands. Packages begin at $545 and include all events plus breakfast, with rooms and suites able to accommodate singles, couples, and larger groups. Pay in full when booking and save $25.
