American Queen Voyages has historical links dating back to the post-World War II era, when the Delta Queen initiated cruises on the Mississippi River. Its success led to building new boats, including the American Queen and (in the Pacific Northwest on the Columbia and Snake Rivers) the American Empress. For those who love our country’s history, the cruises are a deep and delicious plunge into Americana, including its music, food, river lore, small town life, and Native American culture.

Onboard Historians: They are experts on the rivers and may have worked on boats, whether aboard the big tows or the steamboats, so listen up and take in some scuttlebutt mixed with genuine American history.

Cruising Down the River: See America from your floating "front porch" rocking chair while you meet opposing river traffic, lock through to a higher level, pass between towering bluffs, and ease up to a town landing that’s there because of the river.
