Cabo San Lucas

Our Review
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

This tony town on the tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula should be renamed Hollywood South, since it is best known for hosting boldfaced names throughout the year. Set between a windswept desert and the restless Sea of Cortez, the landscape is striking and like no other beach destination in the world.

What We Love

Art Scene: Neighboring San José del Cabo (which is the other “Cabo” in “Los Cabos”) has a hip art district with numerous galleries filled with modern, contemporary, and traditional art. Weekly art walks welcome visitors to open studios and free live music.

Flyboarding: This combo of Jet Skiing, skiing, and snowboarding looks like something from the future. Strap into the wakeboard-like personal craft and blast the attached power jets to hover above the sea.

Best Known For

Deep-Sea Fishing: While swimmable beaches are few and far between, the area’s variety of world-class fish is dizzying. Waters teem with tuna, snapper, mahimahi, wahoo, and marlin, making the region one of the most revered sportfishing spots in the world.

Hiking: A seemingly endless array of hiking trails crisscrosses the varied terrain of Los Cabos. Many offer amazing ocean vistas; all promise fantastic natural experiences.

Who It's Best For

Name-Droppers: The only way not to see someone famous is to walk around blindfolded. While your sightings may not be Clooney-level famous (although he has a house in town), you’re sure to spy someone to brag about to the folks back home.

Extremists: Whether you love the best, the newest, the coolest, or the most adventurous, you are bound to find the superlative experience at this Mexican port.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

It’s Pricey: You want to play with the A-list, you’ve got to put up the ducats. Shopping here is crazy caro (expensive) compared with other areas in Mexico. And the food and drink options also reflect the area’s Hollywood cachet.
