In Freeport, you needn't wander far from your ship to do a little shopping, sip a tropical drink, sample some conch, or dance to sweet Caribbean vibes. You'll find a bit of everything in the purpose-built area surrounding the dock. But go farther afield to find powder-sand beaches, great snorkeling and diving, golfing, gambling, and plenty more shopping — plus adventure opportunities in Lucayan National Park.
Port Lucaya Marketplace: Head to this touristy collection of more than 200 shops, restaurants, and bars if you want to do some serious shopping, drinking, or dining. There's also a straw market and live entertainment.
Peterson Cay National Park: This unspoiled island is surrounded by coral reefs, making it perfect for snorkeling. We suggest booking a tour, since it's not near the port.
Bahamian Brewery: Not far from the dock, you can tour and taste the favorite local brews where they're made.
Pristine Beaches: You have plenty of choices, including public beaches, but we recommend getting a day pass from one of the resorts fronting the beach across from Port Lucaya Marketplace — the Grand Lucayan Resort, for example — so you have all of the facilities at your disposal.
Duty-Free Shopping: Many luxury goods are duty-free, including jewelry, watches, china, and perfumes. Go wild!
Shoppers: This is a great port for you if you like to bargain.
Eco-Adventurers: There are opportunities to swim with dolphins, dive with sharks, kayak, snorkel, ride horseback along a beach, and more.
It's a Taxi Town: Unless you take an organized tour, you'll likely get around by taxi. Just consider yourself warned: Drivers cram as many passengers as possible into minivans and charge a steep fee if you go it alone.
Port Lucaya Shuttle Is a Gamble: This flat-rate shuttle can be a bit crazy when tons of people all want to return to the port at once. Don't wait until the last minute, or you could miss your ship.
