Ah, summer. It’s time for sun, cherry pie, bourbon tastings, scuba diving through crystal-clear Caribbean waters, and a helicopter ride above LA’s most iconic landmark. That’s the case at least if you stick to our list of where to go this summer. We’ve got new hotels, a centennial celebration, and a cherry festival to lure you around the country and abroad. So, pack your SPF and get ready to hit the road.

Los Angeles

The world’s most famous real estate billboard — the Hollywood sign — turns 100 this year, making summer an ideal time to visit. Yes, the City of Angels’ iconic landmark began as an ad for a new housing development called Hollywoodland in 1923 (the billboard lost the “land” part in 1949). Peep the awe-inspiring ad on foot, horseback, or even by helicopter. Head to Griffith Park for various hiking trails, or book a horseback ride with Sunset Ranch Hollywood. To see the sign like a true La La Land VIP, reserve the 35-minute Hooray for a Hollywood helicopter tour with Group 3 Aviation. Or, simply stay at The Kimpton Everly Hotel, Tommie Hollywood, or the Thompson Hollywood — three hotels that have views of the billboard from their rooftops.
