10 Things to Expect On Viking Octantis, Viking's Newest Expedition Vessel

Viking Cruises — best known for the sleek, Scandinavian-style design of its river and ocean ships — carries the look onto its newest luxury expedition vessel, the 378-guest Viking Octantis. However, passengers embarking on the cruise, which offers Antarctic and Great Lakes itineraries, will also find some exciting new amenities amid the familiar surroundings.

The Aula

Viking Octantis’ theater is called The Aula, after the ceremonial hall at the University of Oslo (former setting of the Nobel Peace Prize awards) that inspired it. Located aft rather than forward, it offers 270-degree views. Shades and a laser-projected screen transform it into a venue for nature documentaries and lectures — as well as a one-man musical review by the cruise director.
